Injection Molding Screw Tip Assemblies

The non-return valve is often overlooked in the injection molding industry. The screw tip should not be treated as a simple, cheap wear component. Instead, special consideration should be taken when choosing the correct valve assembly for your production. The non-return valve largely controls part weight variation, cushion variation, and overall process repeatability. At SpiraMelt Technologies, our team of expert screw and valve designers has developed the most accurate, flexible, and long-lasting valve assembly available – the SRV Screw Tip family.

Injection Molding Non-Return Valves to Fit Any Machine

Our SRV Screw Tips can be adapted to fit any injection molding machine! We have a robust database of countless cavity and valve envelope drawings, if we don’t have reliable dimensions for your press, our team will work with you to measure and confirm fit dimensions for a sure fit.

We offer screw tip assemblies ranging in sizes from 12mm – 250mmØ for all injection molding machines. Each valve assembly is specially engineered to be optimized for the resin(s) being processed.

Custom Designed Injection Molding Non-Return Valves

Standard SRV (Shot-Replicator-Valve)

Standard SRV Injection Molding Non-Return Valve

The Standard SRV Screw Tip Assembly is a truly all-purpose check ring assembly engineered for world-class repeatability. The Standard SRV Screw Tip can process a wide range of materials and provides exceptional flexibility for custom molders. With the SRV sliding closure, this valve design is low shear with no dead spots or areas of low flow for stagnation and material degradation, ideal for sensitive resins like PC, ABS, PVC, and glass-filled applications. Each SRV is custom designed to match your specific molding requirements!

SRV Vortek Mixing Valve

SRV Vortek Injection Molding Non-Return Valve

The SRV Vortek Mixing Screw Tip is the most the most versatile injection molding non-return valve design available. The SRV Vortek offers the same world-class shot-to-shot repeatability as the Standard SRV while including a spiral mixing chamber within the valve body for improved melt quality and color dispersion. The added dispersive and distributive mixing of the SRV Vortek converts any GP screw into a high-performance mixing screw with a simple valve change. With an SRV Vortek Mixing Valve, short L/D screws are artificially lengthened with the utilization of the valve body length for processing. As with all SpiraMelt components, each SRV Vortek is tailored for your application: groove geometry, flow rate, shear rate, and more are rigorously calculated for each valve. The SRV Vortek can be optimized for a wide range of resins, but is ideal for shear-tolerant applications.

SRVi (Interlocking / Castellated)

SRVi Interlocking/Castellated Injection Molding Valve

The SRVi Interlocking Screw Tip utilizes the same sliding closure as the Standard SRV and SRV Vortek with the addition of an interlocking/castellated ring for maximum wear life and longevity. With the interlocking ring, the ring rotates with the screw and valve body during recovery, eliminating front retainer wear during operation. Because of the superior SRV sliding closure, the SRVi enjoys more ring-to-barrel clearance without leakage over the ring compared to other interlocking valve designs. This extends the wear life of the valve assembly and barrel! SRVi is ideal for molding applications where wear life is crucial. Interlocking/castellated screw tips are commonly found on many injection molding machines produced in Asia.

Faster Shut-Off, Less Cushion Variation

Unlike conventional check ring assemblies that rely on an angled rear seat and ring for closure, the SRV Screw Tip utilizes sliding closure to achieve rapid, consistent closure – every shot. Sliding closure with the SRV Screw Tip allows for a much shorter distance to close than conventional check rings. This means – no backflow or leakage, more positive closure, and less cushion variation. The SRV typically has 1/4 the ring travel compared to OEM style “free flow” valve assemblies.

Less Restriction and Leakage Than Your Valve

Conventional rear seat closing valves that utilize on an angled ring and seat sealing surface rely on excessive ring and seat thickness (sealing surface area) and ring-to-barrel friction to close. The larger sealing surfaces in these valve designs require longer ring travel to reduce pressure drop because the sealing surface is equivalent to land length in pressure drop calculations. An SRV non-return valve simply requires the ring to slide past a circumferential groove in the valve body to close. This allows for essentially zero land length or 0 psi pressure drop during recovery!

Faster Recovery Times With Less Wear

The SRV closes much faster than conventional designs, eliminating leakage or backflow and significantly reducing cushion variation. This less restrictive design enables faster, more accurate recovery times, less erratic temperature fluctuation, and an increased ring-to-barrel clearance without leakage over the ring – eliminating premature wear of your barrel ID and valve components.

The SRV is a custom-designed solution with off-the-shelf pricing and delivery. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, SpiraMelt Technologies understands that each company has specific production requirements that require engineered solutions. Each SRV screw tip assembly is tailored to optimize your machine-to-material relationship. The distance to close, groove geometry, ring length, seat clearance, etc., are all optimized to best suit the resin(s) you process so that you can achieve a consistent cushion and part weight, regardless of viscosity.

Valve Materials and Specifications

The SpiraMelt SRV Screw Tip family is engineered to last! 100% certified tool steels with tolerances that exceed OEM specifications!

Standard Material Options

Our standard SRV valve option utilizes a combination of quality high-hardness tool steels to provide excellent wear resistance for most applications:

  • D2 Tool Steel bodies and rear seats, through hardened to 57-60 HRc
  • A2 Tool Steel rings, through hardened to 55-58 HRc
  • For larger valve assemblies >100mmØ, H13 Tool Steel rings, through hardened to 54-56 HRc
  • All pilots/and threads are tempered to 36-40 HRc for improved strength without sacrificing wear life performance downstream.
